On Saturday, Las Palmas upset the hosts’ 125th anniversary celebrations by winning 2-1 at La Liga leaders Barcelona. Early in the second half, Sandro Ramirez gave the visitors the lead. Raphinha then scored an equalizer, but Fabio Silva’s goal gave his team three points and moved them up to 14th place.
Barcelona still has four points ahead of champion Real Madrid, but the Blancos, who play Getafe on Sunday, have lost two games to Hansi Flick’s squad. Following a run of 11 wins in 12 previous top flight games, the Catalans have now lost three league games.
When Barcelona celebrated their anniversary, they donned white shorts, just like they had in the beginning. On Friday night, they celebrated the occasion with a gala in the city. Founded on November 29, 1899, they disbanded on Saturday afternoon.
Early in the second half, Ramirez scored a goal from the edge of the box after Kirian Rodriguez played him in, giving Las Palmas an unexpected lead. Raphinha quickly responded for Barcelona with a powerful long-range shot, but Las Palmas took the lead once more shortly after.
Silva scored his fifth goal in eight league games after sprinting onto Munoz’s probing long ball and shooting past Inaki Pena to give the Canary Islanders the lead again.
Eight minutes of stoppage time were needed for Las Palmas to win, with Dutch goalkeeper Cillessen making another save against Yamal and two defenders frantically trying to block a late Robert Lewandowski attempt.
