Liverpool Beat Man City 2-0, open up Nine-Point Premier League Lead

After Man City’s crisis worsened in a 2-0 loss at Anfield, Liverpool took a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League. After Cody Gakpo’s first-half goal and Mohamed Salah’s late penalty dealt another blow to reeling Man City, who are currently 11 points behind Liverpool in fifth place, Arne Slot’s team moved nine points clear of second-place Arsenal.

In the illustrious managerial career of manager Pep Guardiola, City’s seven-game losing streak is the longest. Since Slot took over as manager of Liverpool during the off-season, the team has won 18 of its 20 games across all competitions.

Gakpo leaped to poke home from almost on the line after Salah curled a shot towards the far post, leaving City’s defense in disarray. Salah’s penalty in the 78th minute, which was given because Ortega had fouled Luis Diaz, was a blow to City’s hopes of winning the championship.
