Oyebanji Targets 1,500km Rural Roads as Ekiti Unveils Second-Term Agenda

The Ekiti State Government has unveiled plans to deliver up to 1,500 kilometres of rural roads as part of measures to drive economic growth and improve connectivity across the state during Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second term.

Chairman of the Second-Term Inauguration Planning Committee, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing journalists at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the Governor’s October 16 inauguration.

Adebayo said the second term would focus on consolidating the achievements of the administration’s first four years, with greater emphasis on interventions capable of adding value to the state’s economy and improving productivity.

He said the administration’s recent consultations with stakeholders, including the budget tour of the three senatorial districts, identified roads, healthcare, electricity, water supply, agriculture, human capital development and economic opportunities as areas requiring sustained attention.

According to him, the government would continue its consultative approach in the second term to ensure that its programmes and projects respond to the needs and aspirations of residents.

The committee chairman said the proposed expansion of rural road development would be implemented through various interventions, including collaboration with development partners.

He also highlighted some infrastructure projects completed during the first term, including more than 500 kilometres of inter-state, inter-city and rural roads, the Ado-Ekiti Ring Road, Ikole-Ara-Isinbode Road, Ikere-Ise Road, Ikere-Ilawe Road and other major road projects.

Adebayo said the administration had also completed the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, which commenced commercial operations in late 2025, describing the facility as an infrastructure expected to support investment, tourism, trade and agricultural exports.

He said the second-term inauguration activities would begin on October 2 and end on October 18, with the main inauguration ceremony scheduled for October 16 at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.

The committee chairman said the activities would include a Thanksgiving Jumat Service, Ekiti Future Summit, Sacrifice of Praise, Elderly Citizens’ Event, State of the State Address, Command Performance and thanksgiving service.

Adebayo urged the media to give the activities professional coverage and called on residents to participate peacefully, saying the inauguration would mark the formal commencement of the Governor and Deputy Governor’s second term.

He said the theme of the inauguration, “The Good Work Continues,” reflected the administration’s commitment to sustaining its development agenda while responding to emerging needs across the state.
