Public Servants Begin Three-Day Warning Strike Over Economic Hardship

Public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has directed workers to commence a three-day nationwide warning strike from midnight on Friday, October 2, to Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The council said the decision followed the failure of the Federal Government to address its demands contained in a letter dated September 21, 2026, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a circular signed by the National Secretary of the JNPSNC, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, the council directed its national and state structures to mobilise public servants for the action.
The council called on workers in the Federal, State and Local Government services to participate in the warning strike, citing what it described as increasing economic and mental hardship affecting workers, their dependants and vulnerable Nigerians.
The planned strike follows earlier demands by the JNPSNC for measures to reduce the impact of rising petrol prices, the payment of a wage award and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage ahead of 2027.
