The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, has suspended two senior staff and the President of the Students’ Union Government, SUG, over allegations of extortion and financial impropriety involving 100-level students.
In an internal memorandum dated 16th June, 2026, signed by the Registrar, Mufutau A. Ibrahim, the university said the action followed a petition from an SUG official alleging the unauthorised collection of One Thousand Naira (₦1,000) from each 100-level student for practical sessions under the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The suspended persons are:
- Mr. Olanrewaju Patrick Ogunjobi – Director, Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Dr. Banji Rildwan Olaleye– Deputy Dean, Student Affairs and Support Services
- Mr. James Iyanuoluwa Adio– President, Students’ Union Government
According to the memo, a Preliminary Fact-Finding Committee found on a prima facie basis that the Director allegedly authorised and collected the ₦1,000 levy from each affected student without approval from Senate, Management, or the Bursary, contrary to university directives.
Dr. Olaleye was said to have allegedly assisted in the unauthorised collection, while the SUG President, Mr. Adio, was accused of indirect involvement. The committee alleged that Mr. Adio participated in sharing an initial ₦1,000,000 received from the Director and later threatened to disrupt practical sessions at the Directorate of Entrepreneurship unless another ₦1,000,000 was returned. The Director was alleged to have then transferred ₦700,000 to Mr. Adio’s personal bank account.
The memo stated that Mr. Ogunjobi told the committee that ₦2,500,000 was allegedly collected from students through Dr. Banji, but only ₦1,500,000 was remitted to him. Dr. Banji reportedly did not deny the allegation.
Management stressed that disciplinary matters are governed by the University’s Conditions of Service and Students’ Handbook, which allow suspension of any person against whom a prima facie case has been established pending determination by the appropriate disciplinary committee.
The university reiterated its “zero-tolerance stance against extortion and all forms of corrupt conduct” and urged staff and students to remain calm while the disciplinary processes run their full course.
