The Ekiti State Judiciary has formally launched its electronic case filing system to improve efficiency, promote transparency and strengthen case management.
Speaking at the launch in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Gbemiga Adaramola, urged legal practitioners to make judicious use of the platform to eliminate barriers to the speedy dispensation of justice.
Governor Oyebanji assured that his administration would continue to support the independence of the judiciary and provide the necessary facilities to make the work of the state judiciary easier and more effective.
Earlier, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, explained that the electronic filing system would enable lawyers from any part of the country to file court processes, pay required fees and track the progress of their cases from the comfort of their homes.
Justice Ogunmoye said the initiative would address challenges associated with the traditional paper-based filing system, thereby making the administration of justice more efficient and accessible.
He appreciated Governor Oyebanji for providing adequate funds for the programme and assured lawyers and other users that court administrators would be available to offer assistance and guidance for a seamless transition to the new system.
Also speaking, the Chief Judge of Borno State and Chairman of the Judicial Information Technology Policy Committee, Justice Kashim Zannah, said the adoption of electronic filing by all courts would significantly reduce delays in justice delivery.
Justice Zannah noted that the system would eliminate challenges associated with paper-based processes, including missing or misplaced court records, while promoting transparency and enabling lawyers and litigants to monitor the progress of their cases.
In his contribution, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Stephen Aribasoye, urged the judiciary to ensure proper management of the platform to achieve its intended objectives.
Mr. Aribasoye expressed optimism that effective management of the system would ensure its sustainability and contribute to the speedy dispensation of justice in Ekiti State.
