…warns Israel against targeting civilian infrastructure

The United Nations (UN) has said it recognises the grievances of Palestinians, but nothing can justify the act of terror, adding that Israel Forces should consider humanitarian factors in its operations.

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said this recently on his X account while cautioning the 2 parties on the danger of escalating crisis in the Middle East.

He said, “I recognise the legitimate grievances of the Palestinian people. But nothing can justify acts of terror and the killing, maiming and abduction of civilians.

Also, the Secretary General noted, “While I recognise Israel’s legitimate security concerns, I also remind Israel that military operations must be conducted in strict accordance with int’l humanitarian law.

“Civilians must be respected and protected at all times. Civilian infrastructure must never be a target.”

“Israel must see its legitimate needs for security materialised, and Palestinians must see a clear perspective for the establishment of their own state realised.” He said.

He called for the end of the crisis in the region, saying, “It’s time to end the vicious circle of bloodshed, hatred and polarization in the Middle East.”

“I reiterate my call to immediately cease these attacks and release all hostages.” He added.
