..as police arraigned 4 persons for assaulting environmental officers
Residents of Ekiti State have commended officials of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources for clearing illegal dump sites in the state.
Two of those who spoke, Mr Ayo Dada and Mrs Mary Ojo explained that the step would prevent outbreak of disease and make the state look more beautiful ahead Biodun Oyebanji’s inauguration.
Reacting, Ekiti State Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation Department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Tunde Balogun warned that anyone caught dumping refuse on unauthorized places and conducting roadside trading would be prosecuted.
Also, Acting General Manager of EKSWAMA, Mr Ayoola Osalusi who noted that dumping of refuse in drainages and unauthorized places can lead to flooding, said illegal dump sites at Mathew Junction, Ajilosun, Irona, NTA Road, Waterworks, Moferere, Ilawe Road among others have been cleared.
Meanwhile, Mr Adetuyi Oluwafemi (30), Adelusi Toyin (32), Makanjuola Sesan (48) and Aladetoyinbo Bose (50) have been arraigned in Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court.
The charge reads that the defendants and others now at large on 12/10/22 at Moferere area of Ado Ekiti around 11:30 a.m. did conspire to commit felony to with serious assault and obstruct public officers who stopped them from dumping refuse on the road, also unlawfully assault and obstruct one Police Corporal Salami Abiodun by throwing stone at him while discharging his official and lawful duty.
According to the Police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, the offences contravene Sections 421, 187 (b) and 185 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
In his ruling, Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of#60,000 and two sureties each in like sum.
The case has been adjourned to 23/11/2022 for hearing.
