The Federal Government has indefinitely postponed the launch of the Nigerian Students Loan Scheme.

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Akintunde Sawyer, made this known during an interview with Reporters on Tuesday.

ROUNDOFFNEWS recalled that President Bola Tinubu signed the bill for the Students Loan Fund in June 2023, aiming to provide interest-free loans to Nigerians for higher education, with an initial target start between September and October 2023.

Despite earlier announcements by Tinubu to commence the program in January 2024, preparations were reportedly finalized in January, including the development of the Student Loan Scheme website and program rollout plans.

However, just 48 hours before the scheduled launch, Sawyer cited the postponement, stating the need for corrections and alignment among stakeholders before rolling out the scheme comprehensively and sustainably.
