The House of Representatives has called for urgent action from the Office of the National Security Adviser to coordinate intelligence and security operations nationwide, particularly in Kaduna State.
This call comes in the wake of the recent abduction of over 200 students in the Chikun Local Government Area by suspected bandits.
Despite the N3.25 trillion allocated to security and defence, lawmakers expressed dismay at the prevailing insecurity.
The resolution was made following the adoption of a motion titled “Urgent need to tackle the abhorrent abduction of over 200 students in Kuriga community of Chikun and secure lives and property in Kaduna State,” moved by Ahmed Munir, representing Lere Federal Constituency, Kaduna State.
The motion highlighted recent attacks in the state, including the killing of a school principal and the abduction of his wife and baby, as well as an attack on a mosque in Birnin Gwari.
Lawmakers stressed the need for a proactive approach, mandating the Office of the National Security Adviser to develop and execute a comprehensive security master plan, including coordination with neighbouring countries and optimizing the National Counter-Terrorism Centre and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
