Ekiti State Police Command Arrests Two For Phone Theft, Abduction, Sexual Assault

In a swift response to a tip-off, the Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two individuals for separate crimes involving phone theft, abduction, and sexual assault.

This was revealed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer,
Ekiti State Police Command, SP Abutu Sunday.

According to him, the Ado Central Divisional Police Office (DPO) received a tip-off that a habitual phone thief was attempting to sell three stolen phones at Fayose Market. The DPO dispatched operatives to the scene, where they arrested Miracle Peter of Oke-Ibede Area, Ilawe-Ekiti, in possession of the stolen phones.

During the investigation, Peter confessed to stealing the phones from three different owners at Ifaki-Ekiti. One of the owners has since reclaimed their phone, while efforts are ongoing to identify and reunite the other owners with their stolen property.

In a separate incident, operatives from the Ado Central Division arrested Ayomide Jinaidu of Omisanjana Area, Ado-Ekiti, for abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Investigations revealed that the victim was accosted by Jinaidu while on her way to school and lured into his house, where she was held captive and sexually harassed for approximately five days. Jinaidu has made a confessional statement to the police.

In light of the recent surge in cases of rape, sexual assault, and gender-based violence, the Ekiti State Police Command has urged parents and guardians to caution their wards to be mindful of their surroundings, acquaintances, and relationships.

Victims of such crimes are also encouraged to speak out immediately, enabling the police to take prompt and necessary action.
