As part of efforts to boost fish production and reduce the cost of fish in Ekiti State, the State’s Fisheries and Aquaticulture Farmers Association has converted the recently donated maize from the state Government into fish meal.

Speaking with ROUNDOFFNEWS today in Ado-Ekiti, the State’s Chairman of the Association, Dr Adebayo Ebenezer Temitope revealed that out of 500 bags donated 498 bags of feeds were made, adding that the innovation will reduce the cost of fish.

According to him, the maize was mixed with other ingredients that added nutrients to the feed.

Speaking on the distribution of the fish feed, he said “This products will go to all fish farmers both those online and offline, it will go round to all certified members across the state. As at this morning, we have 98 members and some incoming that are producing, in one way or the other we will get in touch with them.

The Chairman also commended the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyibanji for the support and call for more of such intervention.

The Director Community Communication Ekiti State, Mary Omotosho appraised the innovation by the association, stating that it is a motivation for the government.

She said: “This is quite innovative and it is very encouraging, from our side, if they have done this it means they can do more, and this is what the government is really looking for; this has shown that if we give them more they will do more.

“Coming here, we have discovered that we need to go extra mile to also help to probably get more feeds, and what to do to get quality fish; this is another way of solving the problems.” She added.
