COURT REMANDS TWO PERSONS IN EKITI FOR FRAUD, BRIBING POLICE

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti has granted an order to remand two persons, Kayode Seun and Godwin Festus at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for conspiracy, fraud, cyber crime and bribing police officers.

The charge reads that the court is informed that there is probable cause to order the remand of Kayode Seun and Godwin Festus in Correctional Custody who are reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of conspiracy, fraud, cyber crime, having possession of one Mercedez Benz CLA car reasonably suspected to have been stolen and offering of bribe of N485, 000.00, on 22nd of April, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in Ikere Ekiti within Ikere Ekiti Magisterial District.

According to the charge, the offences are punishable under Section 8 and 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006, Section 13 and 14 of the Cyber Crime Act 2015 and Section 430 and 98A (b) of the Criminal Code Act, Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The charge was read and explained to the defendants but their pleas were not taken.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi prayed the court to remand the defendants in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, pending the issuance of Legal Advice from office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Counsel to the defendants, Iyanu Olumuagun who had earlier stood for the defendants, however withdrew her appearances for reasons best known to her.

In his ruling, Magistrate A.O. Owoleso having listened to the counsel ordered that hearing notice be served on the defendants through the officers of the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti.

The case has been adjourned till 6th day of June, 2024 for mention.
