Control Social media before it causes civil war – Onanuga alerts

By Udesinanna Stephen

Following diverse media reports of the Kaduna Tribunal judgment on the State gubernatorial election, the Director of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign, Bayo Onanuga, has called for regulation of social media, saying that if not controlled, could lead to civil war.

Bayo said this lately via his X handle @aonanuga1956.

In his words, “There should be some control in the social media space, otherwise, the misinformation and disinformation being disseminated will one day trigger a civil war in our country.”

Bayo said, “Social media need to be regulated urgently. So many spurious reports about the Kaduna governorship verdict by the Election Tribunal. The most notoriously shared headline: “Kaduna governorship election declared inconclusive”. This was circulating while the tribunal was still reading its judgment.

The Nigeria Media has reported that the election was declared inclusive. Meanwhile, Premium Times comfirmed that the tribunal has affirmed the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Uba Sani’s victory as the Governor of Kaduna State on the ground that Isah Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could not prove that there were irregularities during the election.
