Police arrest child trafficking suspect in Abia, rescue six children

The Abia State Police Command said a conspiracy and child trafficking suspect, Nnamdi Lazarus, has been arrested as six abducted children were rescued.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, in a press statement issued on Thursday, the 51-year-old suspect is from Mbano in Imo State.

The statement explained that acting on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Aba North, apprehended Lazarus, who currently resides in Uratta Aba, Abia State, noting that the suspect was found harbouring and keeping the children.

All six rescued children, the statement said, have been safely reunited with their families, while investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the child trafficking syndicate.

The suspect, the police said, will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The command used the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to the protection of lives and property through intelligence-led policing, and further assured residents that there would be no hiding place for criminal elements within the state.
