Fire rages at Abuja filling station, firefighters battle to contain spread

Fire has engulfed the AYM Shafa filling station in the Area 3 district of the Federal Capital Territory.

The fire, which broke out around 10 p.m. on Thursday, was still raging as of the time of filing this report.

Although the cause of the outbreak could not be immediately ascertained, firefighters from the Federal Fire Service were at the scene battling the blaze.

The National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, in a statement, said emergency responders had been deployed to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. He said service personnel were working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and facilities.

Abraham expressed sympathy with those affected by the incident and assured residents that efforts were underway to bring the situation under control. He said the Federal Fire Service empathised with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at the station, acknowledging the concern the situation may have caused to residents, motorists, business owners, and members of the public, and assured them that their safety remained the service’s highest priority. He added that firefighters were currently on the ground, working tirelessly and professionally to confine the fire, prevent its spread, and bring the situation under control as quickly and safely as possible.

Abraham urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid the scene to allow emergency responders to carry out their operations without interference. He advised residents and onlookers to stay away from the scene and give emergency responders sufficient space to work unobstructed, while urging motorists to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion around the affected area and to cooperate with traffic management and other emergency agencies on the ground.

He said the Federal Fire Service was doing everything within its operational capacity to manage the incident effectively, and that further verified information would be communicated as more details became available.
