New Chairperson Emerges for NAWOJ Ekiti State Chapter

Comrade Adewumi Ademiju, a correspondent of New Telegraph Newspaper, has assumed the position of chairperson for the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti state chapter.

Ademiju succeeds Alhaja Fatima Bello, following her commendable six-year tenure from 2018 to 2024.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Ekiti NUJ secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, saw Ademiju expressing concerns regarding gender equality, particularly the incomplete implementation of the 35% affirmative action. She emphasized the ongoing gender disparity, which hinders women’s ability to flourish in various fields.

In her acceptance speech, Ademiju pledged that under her leadership, Ekiti NAWOJ would actively advocate for women’s rights and combat any form of violation. She stressed the pivotal role women journalists play in advocating for gender development through their respective platforms.

Comrade Adeola Adekunle, Vice President of NAWOJ, B-Zone, urged the new executives to uphold accountability and diligence in their responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, Chairman of NUJ, Ekiti state chapter, encouraged the executives to be proactive in serving the association.

The newly appointed executives include Funmilayo Falae as General Secretary, Adeigba Adefunke as Financial Secretary, and Oyerinde Oluwafunke as Treasurer.
