The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has warned police officers against misconduct, extortion, abuse of authority, violation of fundamental human rights and political partisanship ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The Commissioner gave the warning during a strategic meeting with officers of the Command at the Officers’ Mess Auditorium, Okesha, Ado-Ekiti, where he reinforced the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on professionalism, accountability, discipline and respect for the rule of law.
CP Falade stressed that all criminal investigations must be thorough, intelligence-driven and conducted in strict compliance with due process. He warned that extortion, unlawful detention, intimidation and abuse of police powers would attract appropriate disciplinary sanctions.
He also charged Heads of Departments, Divisional Police Officers and other supervisory officers to take responsibility for the conduct of personnel under their supervision, while ensuring strict adherence to the principles of proportionality, legality, accountability and necessity in police operations.
On the forthcoming general elections, the Police Commissioner cautioned officers against political interference, undue influence and any form of partisan conduct capable of undermining the neutrality of the Police.
He directed personnel to remain impartial, professional and firm in the discharge of their duties, while providing adequate security for all political parties, candidates and members of the public without fear or favour.
The Commissioner further urged officers to sustain operational vigilance, strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.
CP Falade reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, assuring residents that the Command would continue to uphold the rule of law, protect citizens’ fundamental rights and hold accountable any officer found guilty of professional misconduct.
