Mass Communication students have been encouraged to explore the diverse opportunities within their field in order to achieve success in life.
The charge was given by a lecturer in the Department of Media Studies at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), Olanike Olusola.
Olusola spoke during a presentation by 300-level Mass Communication students held on the university campus.
She urged the students to take full advantage of the various aspects of Mass Communication, noting that the field goes beyond traditional journalism to include public relations, advertising, digital media, filmmaking, and development communication.
The lecturer stressed that practical knowledge and community engagement are key to building a successful career in the profession.
According to her, students must not limit themselves to classroom theories but should seek hands-on experience that connects media practice with societal needs.
While sharing their experiences, two of the students, Moses Gideon and Modupeoluwa Kola-Adebayo, said the practical exercise had exposed them to new ways of using media as a tool for community development.
The students showcased practical projects carried out after visiting rural communities across Ekiti State.
During the field visits, they demonstrated how media can be deployed to address local challenges, raise awareness, and drive grassroots participation in development initiatives.
Olusola commended the students for their innovation and commitment, urging them to sustain the momentum as they progress in their studies and future careers.
