The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Development, Mr. Adedayo Gold, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its role in fostering national unity and driving socio-economic progress. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ise-Orun/Emure-Ekiti. The Governor highlighted the NYSC’s contributions to Nigeria’s development over the past 54 years.
Describing the NYSC as a vital tool for nurturing patriotism, selflessness, and unity among young Nigerians, the Governor praised the scheme’s efforts in equipping youths with essential skills for nation-building and self-reliance. He encouraged corps members to make the most of the opportunities available during their orientation course, urging them to network effectively and embrace entrepreneurial training to achieve financial independence.
The Governor also assured the corps members of their safety and well-being in Ekiti State, emphasizing its peaceful environment, rich culture, and strong moral values. “Ekiti State is one of Nigeria’s safest states, and we remain committed to ensuring your comfort and security throughout your service year,” he added.
In his remarks, the NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator, Alhaji Riko Abdullahi Shuaibu, praised the corps members for their discipline and adaptability to the regimented camp lifestyle. He commended the Ekiti State Government for its support, including meal subsidies and ongoing improvements to camp facilities. Alhaji Shuaibu encouraged the corps members to actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, emphasizing the importance of productivity and adherence to the NYSC motto, “Service and Humility.”
Justice O.Olatawa administered the Oath of allegiance to the over 1,700 corps members, on behalf of the Ekiti State chief Judge, Justice Lekan Adekanye.
In attendance at the Swearing-in ceremony, were the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Eribo, top Government functionaries, traditional rulers, Chairman of host local Government areas, heads of collaborating agencies, NYSC officials and staff.
