…warns students against cybercrime, prostitution, cultism

…as Campus matriculates new intake

Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Temitope John Alake has affirmed that his administration has introduced new ideas and innovations that will promote moral and academic excellence in line with global standards.

To this end, the Rector called on the students of the campus to shun social vices such as cybercrime, prostitution, cultism, sexual harassment, hooliganism, among others saying culprits would be shown the way out.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) students for 2023/2024 academic session, Dr Alake noted that the Polytechnic is now one of the most sought for across the country, hence no stone would be left unturned to sustain the standard for which the school is noted for.

While noting that freedom in higher institutions come with consequences, he urged the new intake to distance themselves from unethical behaviours which can further forfeit their studentship on campus.

He said, “I understand quite well that many teens believed that higher institution is a place where you enjoy a lot of freedom and make friends, buy sometimes that freedom often comes with consequences.

“The federal polytechnic ado has zero tolerance for all anti-social and unethical behaviours such as examination misconduct, prostitution, cultism, sexual harassment, hooliganism, gangsterism, corruption yahoo or whatever it is being called and any form of social vices.”

Speaking on the magnitude of vocational skills acquisition, Engineer Alake said: “Entrepreneurship is evolving in the world and as a result, the federal government of Nigeria mandated all tertiary institutions to establish skill acquisition center for the training and certification of their students.

“Pursuant to this laudable initiative, the management of this Institution established a center called The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Vocational Studies (CEDVS) which is poised to execute the National Qualification Framework (NSQF).”

While reinstating the Institution’s commitment towards ensuring that students are certified with vocational skills to make them exceptional after their programmes, he stated that the centre has over 26 skills acquisition programmes that cut across Agriculture, Construction, Events Management and Fashion Design.

Another high point of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding students who have performed extraordinary in their various departments.
