The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP and 34 concerned individuals have filed a fresh law suit against President Bola Tinubu for an alleged appointment of the All Progressives Congress, APC loyalists as Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs.

It was gathered that the President recommended some individuals loyal to the ruling party which has instigated the move for their.

The Plaintiffs argued that, the appointment of these RECs do not reflect the independence status of the electoral commission.

As contained in the lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos with the case number FHC/L/CS/2353/2023, the plaintiffs are requesting the court to set aside the nomination, confirmation, and appointment of these alleged APC members as RECs, citing the actions as unconstitutional, unlawful, null, void, and of no effect.

Moreover, President Bola Tinubu was sued alongside the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. However, date for the hearing of the case has not been scheduled.
