The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, South-West Done has called on the governors in the zone to improve on the prompt payments of pensions and gratuities.
The National Vice-President of the union in the zone, Elder Ayo Kumapayi stated this in a statement commemorating the Pensioners Day 2024.
The VP equally commended the governors in the zone for their friendly disposition to the plight of pensioners through the monthly/quarterly release of gratuities and payments of monthly pensions.
He went further to hail the leadership efforts of the South-West Zonal Council from the local branches through the State Councils for their persistent efforts in the struggle for the welfare of pensioners.
“This year’s Anniversary calls for a bit of celebration owing to the fact of a steadily improving realization of the aspirations of our Members in this Zone for a Sweet Rest after their Labour.
“This is in no doubt due to the persistent, great efforts of our officials rising from our Local Branches through our State Councils up to the Zonal Level.
“Special mention should be made of the Leadership efforts of the SW Zonal Council in waging “war” against the inhumanity of those in Governance in the SW, Nigeria as demonstrated by their hitherto degrees of Unfriendliness to the welfare of their Senior Citizens who had served the Nation selflessly.
“In our reflection this year, we should gladly acknowledge the improving friendly disposition of our Governors to the plights of Pensioners.
“Billions of Naira are now being released monthly/Quarterly for Gratuities and the payments of Monthly Pensions have found their way back to the First Line Charge.
“While the Union is highly appreciative of these salutary gestures, we appeal that the momentum should not only be sustained but be improved upon.
“To my Esteemed Comrades of the South West Zonal Council, your consistent efforts to always positively blaze the trail, providing the needed directions for the Union is much appreciated and acknowledged.”
