NBA Human Rights Committee Collaborates With NSCDC to Combat Crime in Ekiti

Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Human Rights Committee, Ikere-Ekiti Branch has partnered with the Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to fight crime and human rights abuses in Ekiti State.

This was made known when the leadership of the committee paid a courtesy visit on Friday in Ado-Ekiti to the new state commandant.

According to the Committee Chairman, Iyanu Olumuagun, members of the Bar in the State and Human Rights Committee are partnering with the command for the progress of the State.

Olumuagun, who is also the Vice Chairman of NBA Ikere-Ekiti Branch, revealed that plans are underway to organize a summit that will serve as training for security agents in the State adding that the committee is ready for more collaborations.

Her words: “We want to have negotiation and engage in family talk. We are partnering with some organization as a Human Rights Committee.

“We can’t do it without your organization. We want us to work together. Sometimes ago, we had issues with Police, Civil Defence. We have been trying to make sure peace reign in Ekiti. We want to have collaboration for the progress of people around us.”

Reacting, the state commandant, Paul Sosina, who was newly redeployed to Ekiti State, pledged to partner with NBA to address issues in the State.

According to him, “I want a peaceful environment whereby all of us can sit down together and fight crime. I am going to uphold the rules of law. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the NBA. I want to partner with NBA Ikere-Ekiti so that we address societal issues affecting the State.

“I want the two organizations to sit together so that we can be having regular meetings. I want us to have a framework to investigate and uphold accountable any officer that is involved in rights violation. I don’t want to be biased. I am going to abide by the rules and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

They also paid courtesy visits to the Area Commander in Ikere-Ekiti, Abimbola S.A, who hailed the group for deeming it necessary to honour her while pledging to always partner with the Branch in fighting crime in the area.

Similarly, the committee visited the Command and Divisional Police Command of Nigeria Police in Ikere-Ekiti.

Receiving the NBA leadership, DPO of Ilupeju-Ikere SP, Falowo Bamikole promised to collaborate with Lawyers towards achieving the same goal.
