Muslim-Muslim Ticket Has Failed Nigerians – Sharia Council

By Grace Omachoko

President of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah, has claimed that the Muslim-Muslim ticket that elected President Bola Tinubu has not resulted in improvements for Nigerians.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday at the event themed “Matters Arising from 2023 Election and Associated Socio-Economic Challenges,” Hadiyyatullah acknowledged that despite widespread support for the President during the elections, tangible improvements have been elusive for Nigerians since he assumed office.

Notably, President Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adopted a Muslim-Muslim ticket by selecting Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Hadiyyatullah expressed disappointment, stating, “Nigeria today is too bad. What we were buying at N200 before is N2000 now. We have scarcity of naira and unemployment is escalating. Nigerians are not enjoying the new government.

“The reason for the Muslim-Muslim ticket was to progress, triumph, succeed, and to have a good government, but we didn’t have anything.”

The cleric, who played a role in supporting the same faith ticket during the elections, called for accountability and advised ministers unwilling to work for the nation’s good to resign in favor of more dedicated individuals.

Also speaking, former Governor of Zamfara State, Ahmed Sani Yerima, urged Nigerians to support the present administration, highlighting last week’s Supreme Court judgment as a testament to the President’s democratic principles.

Yerima commended the President for refraining from interfering in the judicial process, citing upcoming electoral reforms to be presented to the National Assembly as evidence of the administration’s commitment to addressing challenges in the electoral system.
