Traders in Ado Ekiti have taken over the major highways in the state capital to run their businesses.
Roundoffnews Correspondent who visited some areas in Ado Ekiti confirmed that the traders were seen displaying their goods at the middle of the road thus obstructing free flow of traffic.
The situation is worst on weekends as the traders often block the road totally a situation many residents have condemned and called on government to put officers of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency on their toes to do the needful.
Speaking seperately with Roundoffnews, a cross section of motorists in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji to take pragmatic steps to stop the unlawful act and also the illegal parking of vehicles on the major roads.
The major areas of concern are Post Office, Oja Bisi, Old Garage, Okeyimi, Ijigbo, Mugbagba to mention but a few.
Some of the respondents including a taxi driver, Sunday Ajisafe and his colleague, Seun Ogunfowokan explained that hawking of goods on major road was suicidal as vehicle could run over them mistakenly.
Also a corps member Joshua Adeola wondered how commercial drivers have turned the road sides to motor park where they now convey passengers with impunity thus obstructing free flow of vehicles.
The respondents appealed to the Governor to strengthen the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency and if possible appoint an experienced and rugged personality who can coordinate the officers properly to do the job.
One of the respondents said:I miss Mr. Oluremi Olarewaju known as Ijakoko, I remember during his days as the General Manager of EKSTMA, you dare not park on the road indiscriminately, during his time the road sides are always decongested.
But if you visit Bisi market today you will have to struggle to drive pass. I urged our Governor to take action and address this matter.
Efforts to get the reaction of the authorities of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency was unsuccessful.
