The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwifery, Ekiti State Council, has joined well-wishers across the globe to celebrate women particularly members of the union on the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day.
This is contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Kunle Oni, the Secretary, Comrade Olabisi Ayenioye and the Public Relations Officer, Olaoluwa Odunayo.
The NANNM leadership called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji to include more women in the policy and decision-making processes of the state and ensure better support for women in nursing profession.
The statement reads: “Women also play a pivotal role as custodians in influencing and impacting their communities, hence the need to have them properly educated and exposed to various leadership and entrepreneurial development.
“We call on Governor Oyebanji to focus on harnessing the strength in one of the country’s greatest resources which is women, by including more women in the policy and decision-making processes of the state.
“Government should ensure that the welfare of workers in the state are adequately addressed.
“On this International Women’s Day Celebration, we celebrate all women, particularly Ekiti women, who have shown commitment to the development of the state.”
The union leaders also congratulated the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanjji for witnessing this year’s celebration and acknowledged her strides in the support for vulnerable women in the society.
We celebrate our first lady for all she has been doing to make life better for women especially the payment of hospital bills and empowerment of women, this is encouraging and we commend her for this.
We also appreciate the efforts of the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, Speaker Ekiti State House of Assembly, Olubunmi Adelugba and other women in politics for making the women folk proud.
It is our hope that women in nursing profession will be considered for more welfare packages that would encourage them to give their best.
