A group, Women and Children Development and Health Research Initiative (WCDHRI) has donated free clothing materials to Ekiti residents.
The donation was made on Tuesday at the ongoing Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ekiti State Council 2024 Press Week.
The charitable gesture was a key highlight of the event, aligning with the WCDHRI’s ongoing efforts to support the community through both healthcare and welfare initiatives.
WCDHRI, founded by Dr. Pius Ade-Ojo, is known for facilitating free medical check-ups and screenings at various events while his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Ade-Ojo, serves as the Director of the organization, leading its various humanitarian programs.
At the event, WCDHRI introduced “Debby’s Place”, a division dedicated to the distribution of recycled clothes to the underprivileged.
According to them, this initiative aims to provide much-needed clothing to those unable to afford it, while also promoting sustainability by recycling garments that are still in good condition.
Morounfoluwa Ade-Ojo, a team member of WCDHRI, spoke to the press, explaining that the philosophy behind their outreach efforts. “Our motto is ‘one man’s poison is another man’s meat,”
She said: “We have collected durable clothes that their owners no longer need, not because they are worn out, but simply because they have more than enough. We recycle these clothes and give them to those who don’t have.”
She further highlighted the importance of combining their healthcare services with providing basic needs like clothing, ensuring holistic care for the less fortunate.
“Today, we are here with about 400 clothes to give away, and we hope to reach as many people as possible.”
The WCDHRI has continued to demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of women, children, and vulnerable populations, offering both health services and essential items to those who need them most.
