…directs concerned traders to relocate immediately
Ekiti State Government has directed some traders selling fowl on the road within some areas of Ado Ekiti to relocate to Agric Olope Market known as Shasha BAO with immediate effect.
The affected areas are, Oja Oba, Post-Office, Atikankan and Ijigbo.
Addressing Journalists after an engagement with some of the concerned traders, the Commissioner for Investment, Trade and Industry, Mrs Adeola Omotayo, affirmed that the relocation order was because of the obstruction often caused by the traders especially during festivities.
She noted that aside the obstruction, the traders were also putting their lives and that of those patronizing them in danger as vehicle could mistakenly run into them beside the road.
Mrs Omotayo noted that other traders hawking on the road side would also be relocated by next year after the full completion of the new space where government intends to relocate them to.
The Director General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho had earlier sensitized the fowl traders on the implications of their action urging them to comply with government’s directive to avoid sanction.
She noted that the Agric Olope marker is well equipped with necessary facilities that could ease their mode of operation and enhance sales.
Among the facilities according to her are, regularly supply of electricity, availability of potable water, good access road, comfortable and healthy environment, security just to mention but a few
In their various responses, the traders appreciated the government representatives for the subtle method applied with a promise to comply with the directive.
