FG Trains Ekiti Farmers on Alternative Yam Farming System

Owing to the farmers-herders clashes, the Federal Government has come up with an alternative yam farming system which involves the use of sack.

To this end, farmers across the country are enjoined to key into the innovation towards ensuring food security in the country.

Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Muhammed Abubakar made this known in Ado Ekiti during a training organized for some yam farmers across the sixteen local governments of the state.

Dr. Abubakar who was represented by a senior officer in the ministry, Dr perpetua Iyere-Usiahon explained that such inovation is healthy, economical, tested and trusted.

The Minister said that, using sack bag for production of yam was one of the strategies towards achieving sustainable Development Goals.

He assured farmers across the country that president Buhari’s administration is committed  to food security and would do everything possible to priotize the needs of farmers.

Dr. Abubakar charged the beneficiaries to extend the knowledge gained during the training to other farmers in their local governments.

After the training, the farmers were given yam stems to test run the inovation.
