Eight lives claimed by strange illness, 208 cases identified

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed eight deaths and over 208 suspected new cases of a mysterious illness in Sokoto state.

Dr. Ibrahim Usman, the centre’s manager, revealed this during an interactive session with state Ministry of Health officials.

He noted that the outbreak occurred in Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas.

Usman highlighted swift measures taken by the NCDC and state government to contain the illness, including sample analysis. Noting that the symptoms include abdominal disorder, fever, vomiting, and weight loss.

Idris Gobir, Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, informed Health Minister Prof. Ali Pate of the disease’s impact in Isa Local Government Area, imploring urgent federal intervention.

“The NCDC has mobilized a National Rapid Response Team (NRRT) to collaborate with the Ministry of Health for further investigation.” he said
