COMMITTEE STRATEGISES TO ERADICATE TUBERCULOSIS, HIV IN EKITI

Residents of Ekiti State have been urged to report cases of Tuberculosis and HIV to health facilities in their various communities.

The Director, Ekiti State Community and Family Health, Dr Akintunde Ogunsakin gave the advice in Ado Ekiti during a meeting with the steering committee of Tuberculosis and HIV in Ekiti

Dr Ogunsakin who lamented the rate of people suffering from HIV and Tuberculosis but not attending health facilities for treatment, saying such could cause untimely daeth.

He noted that drugs and other necessary things needed for treatment of Tuberculosis and HIV were provided by state government free, saying nobody would collect a dime from them.

Also speaking , Programme Officer, Tuberculosis and Leprosy in Ekiti State, Mr Joshua Orojo explained that at the end of july 2024, about five hundred people were confirmed to be living with Tuberculosis in the state.

According to him, number of male with tuberculosis were more than that of women, hence the need for people to always go for test for early detection, emphasizing that treatment is free.

Mr Orojo urged the patient medicine dealers in Ekiti state to report cases of tuberculosis to appropriate centres as there would be benefits for them.

Mr Ojo appealed to stakeholders at the meeting to continue to tell people on the need for them to visit hospitals whenever they are coughing or notice weight losing.

Members of the committee included drivers unions, NUJ and health workers
