Bail is unpolice – Police PR insists

By Udesinanna Stephen

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Prince Olumuyiwa, has said paying for bail is unpolice, adding that the Nigeria Police Force is tackling the menace.

He made this known lately on his X account @Princemoye1.

He said, “I am aware some policemen collect bail money, and this has been condemned on several occasions. Don’t sound mischievous as if someone supports bail money. It’s unpolice, and we have arrested many for that. But we can do better if we stop paying this money.

“When a policeman in the station demands bail money, please ask him to take you to the DPO and make contacts as well. I have shared numbers of PPROs here, and the control room numbers, so make use of them.

“I feel sad when people cry out that they have been extorted even in the police premises. It’s an absurdity. Senior officers are always available to intervene, and if we notice such an officer too compromises, we take it up against him or her. We need to tackle this menace collectively.” He said.
