The African Union, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Amb. Bankole Adeoye has called for the support of the AU peace funding for rapid response to emergencies in Africa.

He made the call in his remarks at the Ministerial level that virtually convened to discuss financing AU led-Peace Support Operation, PSO.

As obtained from the verified Twitter handle of the AU Political Affairs, Peace and Security, @AUC_PAPS Adeoye along with the Council expressed concern toward the financing challenges of the Peace Support Operation sought for the operationalisation of the existing Crisis Reserve Facility in tackling challenges.

“In line, the AU Council requests that the Union should use the AU Peace Fund to fulfill the current financial gap in some of its projects, particularly in Somalia and Senegal.”

More so, he stressed the need for AU’s collaboration with the United Nations Security Council, UNSC, and partners in addressing and ensuring the availability of financing.
