Adamawa Guber: Police arrests REC, begins investigation

The Nigeria Police Force has said the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team has arrested the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, who was alleged to have announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC winner of the gubernatorial elections during the concluded supplementary elections.

This was revealed in a press statement published on the verified Twitter handle of the Nigeria Police Force, @PoliceNG, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra.

Also, this is coming following calls for his arrest and investigation by President Mohammadu Buhari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other concerned bodies based on alleged impropriety in the course of supplementary gubernatorial polls in the State.

According to Adejobi, Barrister Ari, who was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday 2nd May 2023, is currently in Police custody and is being questioned to ascertain the reasons and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary elections in Adamawa State.

More so, Adejobi said other officials and individuals involved in the saga are being interrogated by the Police team.

“The Inspector-General of Police has given clear assurance that every individual involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended and investigated in line with the provisions of the law for possible prosecution.” The statement added.
