25% in Abuja: PDP responds to Tinubu statement of anarchy if disqualified

…says Tinubu attempts to Intimidate Judiciary

By Udesinanna Stephen

Following President Bola Tinubu’s statement that anarchy will befall the country if the court disqualifies him due to failure to get 25% votes in Abuja during the 2023 Presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has described the statement as a threat adding that it is an offence to democracy.

The PDP responded in a statement signed by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba and published on its verified Twitter handle at @OfficialPDPNig.

Recall, the PDP, Labour Party and other opposition have been in Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, challenging the outcome of the 2023 general elections that led to the emergence of Tinubu. The opposition parties have been arguing on multiple grounds. Notably, they interpreted the constitution to demand 25% in Abuja before a President can emerge.

Tinubu had challenged the 25% contention in a written address by lawyers representing when the Court recently gave him and the All Progressive Congress, APC, 10 days to respond.

The PDP described the statement as “a pre-emptive move to intimidate the judiciary.” and “is subversive, an affront to Democratic Order and assault on the corporate existence of the nation.”

PDP said, “Contrary to the doomsday claims of the APC and its lawyers, upholding the provisions of the Constitution and the laws at this point will rather promote peace and stability in the polity, deepen our democracy and engender confidence in the Institution of the Judiciary.

“The PDP holds that the clear intent of the APC is to blackmail the Court and emasculate the independence of the judiciary to discharge its duties in accordance with the dictates of the law. This action is ostensibly to set the stage to orchestrate violent crisis in various parts of the country with the intention to further blackmail the PEPC.” The statement contends.”
