EKIRS Chairman Felicitates Nigerians on independence, Ekiti Kete 30th Anniversary

The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), Mr. Olaniran Olatona, has felicitated Nigerians on the occasion of the 66th Independence Anniversary of the country and Ekiti Kete on the 30th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Executive Chairman and released by the Head of Communications and Liaison, EKIRS, Ayomiposi Ayedun, on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960, Mr. Olatona acknowledges the challenges that have characterised the nation’s development, noting that the resilience, unity and collective strength of Nigerians have sustained the country through the years.

He commends the courage, faith, resilience and doggedness of Nigerians in the face of challenges that have, at different times, threatened the nation’s unity and stability.

Mr. Olatona also notes that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is building on previous efforts of past leaders while introducing structural adjustments aimed at positioning Nigeria for greater economic growth and development.

He urges Nigerians not to lose hope in the face of current challenges, but to remain optimistic and committed to building a better country for present and future generations.

On the 30th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State, the EKIRS Chairman rejoices with Ekiti indigenes home and abroad for witnessing what he described as a historic milestone.

He particularly felicitates Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whom he notes was prominent among the eminent Ekiti people who contributed to the struggle for the creation of the state in 1996 and who, three decades later, is leading its affairs as Governor.

According to him, the coincidence of participating in the struggle for the creation of Ekiti State and subsequently governing the State 30 years later represents the fulfilment of a remarkable journey.

Mr. Olatona calls on all Ekiti people and residents to continue to support initiatives aimed at advancing the development of the state and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the people across all communities.

He also condoles those who lost their loved ones and property during the recent flood disaster that affected parts of the State, praying for the repose of the souls of the departed.

Speaking on the role of EKIRS in the state’s development, the Executive Chairman assures taxpayers of the Service’s continued efforts to improve tax administration and enhance the taxpayer experience.

He reiterates that EKIRS would continue to pursue an efficient and equitable tax system without overburdening taxpayers, while strengthening public awareness and encouraging voluntary compliance.

Mr. Olatona expresses optimism about the future of both Ekiti State and Nigeria, urging citizens to remain patriotic, resilient and supportive of efforts to build a more prosperous society.
