Residents of Ado Ekiti today troop out in their large numbers to participate in the ten thousand metres wellness walk initiated by Former member of the House of Representatives and Chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), Bimbo Daramola.
This development silenced critics and naysayers who predicted an end to the well accepted exercise following the outcome of the APC primary election.
The 13th fitness edition which commenced exactly 7:00am at Tosin Aluko Garage in Ajilosun spanned through President Bola Tinubu’s Flyover, Housing area, Oke-Ila, Adebayo axis before converging at Fajuyi Pavilion.
Addressing the gathering, Daramola noted that BAOWALK was conceived not as a political campaign tool but as a platform to raise public awareness to health and intimate them on the efforts of Governor Oyebanji in the health sector
He said: “When we finished the primaries, some people said it’s all over, but here we are, doing it again. We thank God it has been successful and I say shame on them.
“The essence of BAOWALK is to bring people together, encourage healthy lifestyles and foster a sense of community. Politics comes and goes, but initiatives that positively impact society endures”. He said
Also speaking, Ekiti State APC Chairman, Barrister Sola Eleshin described the initiative as a good initiative, especially when the state is preparing for the forthcoming June 20 gubernatorial poll.
He urged residents to collect their PVCs and vote for APC in ensuring the sustainability of democratic dividends.
Another participant, Anne Alex described the exercise as a timely reminder that good health remains the foundation for achieving personal goals.
According to her, maintaining a healthy lifestyle should not be left until health challenges arise but should become a daily habit.
