Strive for Excellence, No Excuse for Failure: Christ School Alumnus Abimbola Adeseyoju Inspires Students

Launches FET Foundation to promote entrepreneurship, academic excellence

An alumnus of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, Class of 1977, Abimbola Adeseyoju, has challenged students of the school to strive for excellence and take full advantage of opportunities around them, regardless of their circumstances.

He urged the students to take responsibility for their future, stressing that access to knowledge and technology has removed every major barrier to success.

Adeseyoju gave the charge during a special gathering at Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, where he formally launched the FET Foundation, an initiative designed to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth development.

The event also featured the presentation of his book, The Heaven in Me, as part of efforts to inspire students toward purposeful living.

Drawing from his experience as a student between 1970 and 1977, Adeseyoju identified discipline, unity, and competitiveness as the core values that shaped his generation.

“Christ School built in us a mindset of excellence and a belief that we could compete and succeed anywhere,” he said.

He emphasized that the school environment fostered unity across ethnic and social lines, with students relating as equals regardless of background.

“According to him, that early exposure to national integration remains one of the strongest lessons the institution imparted.”

Focusing on his central message, Adeseyoju said confidence is the starting point for success but warned that confidence without hard work is empty. He urged students to combine self-belief with discipline, determination, and consistent effort.

He further charged them to develop a clear vision for their lives, insisting that no one succeeds without direction.

“Students must begin early to define their goals and align their daily actions with what they hope to achieve,” he said.

On modern learning, Adeseyoju noted that the internet has made education more accessible than ever, removing excuses for poor performance. He maintained that students who fail today often do so not from lack of resources but from lack of focus and commitment.

Reacting to the development, the Principal of Christ School, Ebenezer Oluwarotimi Oso, praised Adeseyoju for giving back to the institution. He described the donation of books and the launch of the entrepreneurship-focused foundation as impactful gestures that would leave a lasting influence on the students.

Students also expressed excitement over the visit. Senior Boy, Talabi Temilade, said the address was inspiring and timely.

“The message on discipline, vision, and entrepreneurship has motivated us to strive harder and position ourselves as future leaders capable of driving Nigeria’s development,” he said.
