The Righteous People’s Movement has established a food bank and charity store inside the Ado-Ekiti bus terminal, around Oja Oba, to cater for the needs of the less privileged in society.
The centre is powered by the Old Catholic International Missionary Society of St. Christopher and the Caritas Sustainable Development Foundation.
The food bank and charity store will also offer financial assistance, spiritual counseling, education support, and other forms of aid to residents in need.
Addressing newsmen during the launch of the food bank and charity store, the Presiding Bishop of the Old Catholic Apostolic Church Nigeria, Most Reverend Oluwaseun Fagbohun, said the initiative was not just charity but a strategic response to the economic hardship shaping voter behaviour ahead of the election.
He stressed that hunger and poverty could undermine people’s integrity, making citizens vulnerable to inducement, hence the establishment of the food bank and charity store became necessary.
Reverend Fagbohun called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the food bank and charity store so it can reach more people, especially the less privileged in society.
He added that the centre would operate with dignity and transparency, ensuring that aid gets to those who need it most without discrimination.
The bishop noted that beyond material support, the initiative would provide counseling and skills-based guidance to help beneficiaries regain self-reliance.
Reverend Fagbohun also lamented the level of insecurity in the country and urged leaders at all levels to prioritise the security and welfare of the people.
He said sustainable peace and development cannot be achieved where citizens live in fear and deprivation, calling for urgent, people-centered policies.
