The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde, has congratulated teachers across the 16 local government areas of the state on this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration.
In a goodwill message issued on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, Olatunde described teachers as critical stakeholders in the development of the society, whose contributions to education and human capital development remain indispensable.
According to him, it is an indisputable fact that teachers are professional trainers, knowledge givers, character moulders, guardians and mentors, and parents in school.
He commended teachers for their dedication, patience and commitment to nurturing pupils and students despite challenges confronting the education sector, stressing that they play a strategic role in shaping the future of the younger generation.
The NLC chairman called on the government and other stakeholders to prioritise teachers’ welfare through improved working conditions, regular payment of salaries and allowances, training and retraining opportunities, and other incentives that will boost morale.
He urged teachers in the state to remain steadfast and uphold the ethics and dignity of the teaching profession, assuring them of the organised labour’s continued support in protecting their rights and welfare.
Olatunde wished teachers a memorable celebration and expressed optimism that greater recognition and improved conditions of service would further motivate them for higher productivity.
