The Ekiti State Branch of the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) has joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child 2026.
In a statement released to commemorate the day, AWLA Ekiti said the day provides an important opportunity to recognise the rights, potential, achievements, and aspirations of every girl child.
The association noted that every girl deserves to grow up in an environment where she is protected from violence, discrimination, abuse, child marriage, harmful practices, and every form of exploitation.
According to the statement, “At AWLA Ekiti State, we believe that empowering the girl child is an investment in the future of our families, communities, and nation. We remain committed to promoting access to education, justice, healthcare, safety, leadership opportunities, and equal participation for girls.”
AWLA Ekiti therefore called on parents, schools, government institutions, communities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to create safe spaces for girls to thrive.
