The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has sought the support of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible local government election scheduled for December 2026.
This was made known in a press release signed by the Public Enlightenment Officer, RC Obinna Egesie, on behalf of the Sector Commander, and obtained by Roundoffnews.
The SIEC Chairman, Rt. Hon. Justice C.I. Akintayo (Rtd), made the appeal on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when he led commissioners and principal officers of the commission on a courtesy visit to the FRSC Sector Commander in Ekiti State, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MCILT, at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Akintayo said the visit was to formally notify the FRSC of the commission’s preparedness for the forthcoming council elections and seek adequate traffic management and security coverage before, during and after the exercise.
He stressed the need for close collaboration to prevent vehicle breakdowns involving election logistics vehicles, road obstructions and traffic congestion, noting that such challenges could trigger electoral violence and other electoral malpractices.
The SIEC chairman commended the Sector Commander for his commitment to road safety, effective leadership and collaboration with other security agencies, which he said contributed to the success of the last governorship election in the state.
Responding, Adeoye appreciated the delegation and assured the commission of the corps’ commitment to ensuring a hitch-free electoral process.
He explained that the FRSC would inspect and certify vehicles designated for the movement of electoral officers and materials to prevent mechanical failures that could disrupt election logistics.
The Sector Commander also listed the enforcement of movement restrictions on election day, except for personnel and individuals undertaking essential election duties, as well as the deployment of FRSC personnel to polling units alongside other security agencies, among the corps’ responsibilities during elections.
Adeoye further assured the SIEC that the command would maintain neutrality and professionalism in accordance with the code of conduct guiding security agencies deployed for electoral duties.
