Governments at all levels and corporate institutions in Nigeria have been advised to adopt Artificial Intelligence and other technological innovations into their procurement systems to address corruption and ensure value for every penny invested in a project.
This is one of the resolutions reached by professionals during the 2025 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Ekiti State Chapter, with the theme: “Technological Innovation for Effective Public Project Procurement in the 21st Century.” Participants and experts at the event identified corruption and bureaucratic bottlenecks as major factors affecting the effectiveness of the Nigerian procurement system but resolved that such obstacles could be addressed through technology adoption.
In his paper presentation, Professor Isaac Aje, a lecturer at the University of Science and Technology, Akure, Ondo State, urged professional quantity surveyors to acquire the required knowledge on technology applications and support the government in ensuring effective technology introduction and implementation.
Also, in his presentation, Mr. Olalekan Babajide, Public Relations Secretary of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Ekiti State Chapter, called for partnerships between government, academia, and technological institutions to develop more suitable, locally relevant AI tools tailored to the nation’s procurement realities.
Earlier, Dr. Olubunmi Ade-Ojo, Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Ekiti State Chapter, allayed fears that Artificial Intelligence would replace professionals, saying it would enhance their jobs for optimal performance.
Participants described the conference as thought-provoking, opening their eyes to innovations and contemporary realities in the profession.
