….prepares for combined convocation, set to honour past leaders
The Ekiti State College of Technology, Ijero-Ekiti (EKSCOTECH), has declared its readiness to produce middle- and high-level technical manpower required to drive Nigeria’s economic development across health, technology, agriculture, engineering and applied sciences.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Olufemi Olubamise, stated this on Monday in Ijero-Ekiti during a press conference to herald the maiden combined convocation of the institution, scheduled for September 21 to 27, 2026.
Olubamise said the transition of the institution from a Women Development Centre to a School of Health Technology, then a monotechnic and now a full-fledged Polytechnic, had positioned EKSCOTECH to take on a broader responsibility in addressing the country’s technical manpower needs.
He said the institution’s emergence as a Polytechnic following the approval granted by the Ekiti State Government in December 2025 had opened a new chapter in its development.
According to him, the maiden combined convocation is particularly significant because it brings together 5,742 graduands from the 2017/2018 academic session to the 2025/2026 academic session.
The graduands, he said, would receive National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and other certificates across 30 programmes, with the institution currently offering 42 accredited programmes across five schools.
Olubamise said the programmes cut across Clinical Technology, Allied Health Sciences, Engineering, Finance, Business and Management Studies, as well as Pure and Applied Sciences.
He noted that the development represented more than an expansion in the institution’s academic portfolio, describing it as a signal that EKSCOTECH was prepared to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s human-capital development.
Olubamise also acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations, governing councils, staff, alumni and benefactors to the institution’s transformation, adding that some of the past leaders of the school would be honoured during the convcocation ceremony on Saturday
He particularly commended the state government for approving the Polytechnic status and supporting the institution through increased subvention, provision of a borehole and installation of streetlights, among other interventions.
He also acknowledged contributions from Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, including an ambulance, solar-powered borehole and solar streetlights; Dr. Abiodun Arokodare for the Dr. Mike and Grace Arokodare Building; and former federal lawmaker, Hon. Omowumi Ogunlola, for the Wumi Ogunlola Hall.
The Rector further praised the Owa Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adewole Adebayo, for supporting the institution and facilitating the release of 118 hectares of land for its proposed Southern Campus.
He said the land would provide room for future expansion of the Polytechnic and potentially support its growth into a university.
Olubamise disclosed that out of the 5,742 graduands, 343 obtained distinctions, 1,951 upper credits, 2,720 lower credits, 661 passes and 67 merits.
Looking ahead, the Rector said his administration would pursue its SCALE Agenda, focusing on digital transformation and academic excellence, capacity building, student welfare, infrastructure renewal, financial sustainability, industry linkages and effective institutional governance.
He also appealed to alumni to return to the institution and contribute through mentorship, scholarships, infrastructure development, research collaboration and industry partnerships.
While inviting prospective students to take advantage of the ongoing 2026/2027 admission exercise, Olubamise said the institution’s goal was to produce graduates who would be not only certificate holders but also skilled, employable and entrepreneurial.
Activities marking the convocation continues on Tuesday, with Corporate Social Responsibility/Community Service by ten o’clock in the morning, Novelty Football Match by two o’clock in the afternoon, Convocation Lecture will take place by 11am of Thursday and would be delivered by former Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Patrick Dipo Aina
The programme continues on Friday, with a Jumat Service by one o’clock in the afternoon, Rector’s Gala Night by evening and the climax on Saturday with the Convocation Ceremony beginning from ten o’clock in the morning.
Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Ijero-Ekiti.
