The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed its judgment in a suit seeking the final forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN. The court on Monday fixed July 10, 2026 as the new date for ruling.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik announced the new date during proceedings on Monday. The matter was previously scheduled for judgment on May 26 after both sides had presented their final arguments.
At the last sitting, counsel for the EFCC, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, and lawyers representing Malami and other respondents, led by Adedayo Adedeji, SAN, had adopted their written submissions and addressed the court on the case.
When the case was called as the fourth item on Monday’s docket, it did not proceed. The court did not give a reason for the delay. Three other matters on the 13-case list were also rescheduled to different dates.
The EFCC filed the suit in February, asking the court to order the permanent forfeiture of the 57 properties. The commission alleged the assets were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity.
In moving the application previously, Okutepa informed the court that the motion was backed by a 47-paragraph affidavit and 46 exhibits.
