BOUESTI Don Applauds Ekiti Residents Over Peaceful Conduct During Governorship Poll

The Dean of School of Communication and Media Studies, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, BOUESTI, Ikere-Ekiti, Dr. Daniel Nwanmereni, has described the just concluded Ekiti governorship election as one of the most peaceful in the state’s history.

Speaking with journalists in his office, Dr. Nwanmereni commended Ekiti people for their conduct before, during, and after the poll, noting that the exercise was largely free of violence and rancour.

He said the peaceful atmosphere was most evident in Ikere-Ekiti, the hometown of two leading candidates, and attributed it to the political maturity and civility of the people.

“In many other states, a contest involving prominent candidates from the same community could have resulted in tension and violence. Ekiti people showed remarkable maturity and there was no significant violence. That is highly commendable,” he said.

The don added that the election should serve as a case study for other states.

“For a governorship candidate and a deputy governorship candidate to come from the same town and still have a peaceful election is remarkable. In some states, such a situation could have led to serious unrest,” Dr. Nwanmereni stated.

He also applauded the state governor for providing a level playing field for all political actors.

“I commend the governor for ensuring that the election was conducted without intimidation or violence. His approach demonstrates a commitment to peace and democratic governance,” he said.
