The United States has said it is promoting equity and equal opportunities for Nigerian women in the media.

Spokesperson of the US Embassy, Robert Gabor, revealed this in his remark at the workshop in Yola tagged “She Exists” training program.

As gathered from the official X handle of the US Embassy @USinNigeria, he said, “Let me start by explaining why the United States government is sponsoring this training. Worldwide, my government has implemented a range of policies, programs, and initiatives to support women’s empowerment across various sectors.  These efforts aim to address issues such as economic equality, education, health care, political participation, and gender-based violence.”

According to him, the media has a role towards full empowerment of women.  Because the media provides information, which is the root of power that can help change public perceptions.

“This is the first in a series of trainings the U.S. Embassy is sponsoring for female journalists across the six northeastern states of Nigeria.  So from here, we will proceed with courses in Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Gombe in the coming weeks.” He said.
