VIRAL FOOTAGE ON EKITI NSCDC OFFICERS WAS DOCTORED… SPOKESMAN

…says nscdc is committed to rule of law

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command says it will continue to operate with respect to the rule of law.

The command was reacting to a video clips circulating around about an alleged high hardness of some of the command’s operatives who were in Ikere Ekiti to effect an arrest on Friday 1st September 2023.

According to a statement by the spokesman for the command, Tolu Afolabi said the footage was doctored.

He said:”The woman in question was alleged to have engaged in fraudulent activities that necessitated a complaint from the victim at our Area Commander’s office in Ikere Ekiti.

“The suspect was invited earlier via a phone call but insulted the officer and refused to show up. she was later arrested that same day. She complied with the officers on duty. While on their way, she saw her husband and begged the officers to allow her talk to the husband. As a law abiding agency, she was allowed to communicate with the husband, the action led to restrictions from the husband as he insisted that the wife should not be taken away.

“The husband later called on the people residing in the area to assault our officers who were on their lawful duty. The children also came out to assault the officers which made the rifle handling officers to refrain from arresting her despite the provocations.

“Onlookers in the areas who were not aware of her alleged offences started taking videos of where our officers were disengaging themselves from the woman who held their clothes and eventually tore their uniforms. Videos of where the onlookers molested officers on duty were not uploaded to the internet but that of our officers trying to leave the scene was released to the public glare.

” A responsible officer will not arrest anyone in lieu of a suspect not to talk of underage that the suspect claimed were arrested. The onlookers were allowed to take videos of the event unhindered but they erred when they refused to capture when the suspect and his family malhandled and assaulted the officers on duty. Despite the level of provocation, the officers maintained calmness and did not fire a shot even to warn or scare them away.

“The State Command therefore dissociates herself from the flying videos as it is one-sided and far from the real situation. Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is a law abiding Agency and the Corps is not going to shield any of her officers whenever they violated fundamental human rights of the people and also, the Corps will always frown at the anyone assaulting our officers especially when they are on lawful duty.

“The State Command has commenced a decreet investigation into the matter to unravelling the remote and immediate causes of the assault on our officers as well as pointing out other matters associated with the event.
