Tinubu’s Dual Citizenship Constitutional, says Fashola

By Udesinanna Stephen

Following the disclosure of the President elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Guinean diplomatic passport on social media former Lagos governor
Fashola has said Nigeria constitution allows dual citizenship.

The Governor during an interactive session with journalist on Channels said dual citizenships has nothing to do with the 2023 election results.

In his words, “What does that have to do with the results of the election? The last time I checked, I think the Nigerian constitution allows you to have dual citizenship. Doesn’t it?”

Fashola said this following speculations on social media that the president-elect under oath did not disclosed to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC that he is a double citizen.

“Meanwhile, Section 137 (1) (a) of the Nigerian Constitution says a person will not be qualified to be president if he “has gone by him (her) self to acquire the citizenship of a country asides from Nigeria.

“Notwithstanding, courts have continuously have that the consequence of the constitution is not applicable to a Nigerian citizen by birth either a Nigerian parent or both parents.”

Although political analyst have that opposition could file for false representation.
